Gold locket--birthday present from Kumar

It rained all day yesterday and last night, which was pretty fitting for my mood.  And it rained all morning, but right when we got to the old abandoned factory to take these photos the sky began to clear and the sun came out and what had been sort of a depressing Atlanta scene became a romantic place with sunlight-filled puddles and blue sky peeking through holes in the old falling-apart '20s factory.
I'm doing a little better today, but I just want to say it here that all of your comments about Scarlet helped me so much.  Sometimes when going through these situations it's easy to forget that you're not the only one who's ever had something rotten happen to you.  So many of you wrote comments about how you had family dogs that passed away after being with you for years and years.  Or about how sad it is that dogs have to get old and how they ought to live at least as long as people.  For some reason I never thought it would be this hard to see my dog in advanced years--I always figured that since I'd be old myself (and I am--I'm only 2 years away from 30!) I would be settled and wouldn't be affected by the same things that bothered me as a kid.  But being at my family's house and spending so much time with Scarlet made me feel like I was 17 again,  about as much attached to her as I ever was . . . .
I suppose it's silly to think about all of that for now.  I'm going to do my best to visit her again soon, and for now I'll just try to concentrate on everything else going on in my life, like how I still need to find Christmas presents (I'm the worst shopper ever) and how nice the people around me are.  Do you see the locket I'm wearing in these photos?  It's a birthday gift from Kumar--it was given to his grandma in 1939, and he passed it on to me!  It's my favorite necklace by far.
