  • Vague

It’s not really clear if the app continues to be free after 7 days...or how to use the app without going PRO. Seems a bit disingenuous to me. App is deleted without use.

    Great app otherwise.
  • Not that accurate

    By Dumbo90210
The first thing I tried to translate from English to Spanish was: "I think I helped a little, but not much". The translation came back as: "Creo que me ayudó un poco, pero no mucho" which translates to "I think it helped me a little, but not much". I tried several times and always got the same wrong result. I then tried the excellent Google Translate app with voice recognition and got the correct translation the first time: "Creo que ayudé un poco, pero no mucho". The app has a pretty nice interface. However, the initial attempt to up-sell the expensive Pro package is sneaky and certainly tricks some people into buying as is proved by all the one start reviews. Overall, I like the interface, but I don't trust the translations.
  • Very deceptive - not a free app

I use it with my work in AZ. I am slowly learning Spanish through the use of common phrases. I can actually converse through the app. It is an amazing tool.

  • Don’t click “continue” if you want the free app. Instead click the X.

    By MyPistachio
The app seems to work well. But the set up process is very confusing and I believe deceptive. The developer needs to fix this to make it easier to understand how to choose between a paid and free app. During set up you are provided with a window that has a “continue” button that will automatically enroll you in a monthly subscription plan. There seems to be no other choice and there are no clear instructions on how to use the app for free other than the 7 day free period before the paid subscription begins. To use the free version of the app you have to dismiss the subscription window by clicking the “X” in the upper right corner of the window. Since this choice isn’t clearly delineated some people probably don’t know they have a choice or don’t fully understand what clicking the “continue” button means since it is the only obvious next step to set up the app. Perhaps this is why some reviewers believe they were scammed into subscribing. Perhaps they have a point.

I used this when I was in Mexico and France and then when I was taking my Spanish classes and needed to know how to say and wrote sentences
  • Very transparent, and great app!

First of all, I’d like to dismiss any concerns of my review. I am very real, and do not get paid by writing reviews. I am a regular iOS user, just like you, and have no affiliation with any of the app developers. With that being said, here are the facts of Converse. This is a free app to download. It does not charge you when you download it from the App Store. There IS a Pro version you can subscribe to WITHIN the app. When you open the app, the very first page that pops up simply shows you the membership options, and allows you to compare the differences. If you click below the memberships, it will CLEARLY show that you have opted for the membership, and shows the price right before you double tap the side button to enable Face ID. This is all very clear, and everyone I work with had no complaints about a “sneaky” way to force someone into a membership without their knowledge. Even before you download the app, it shows “FREE” and clearly notates the option for a membership within the app. And on that very first page that pops up once you have downloaded the app, and open it for the first time, there is a very clear “X” on the top right of the screen that allows you to exit from the different membership options, and continue to the FREE app. There are plenty of beneficial features to access without cost; however, the membership version offers some amazing features, that in my opinion, are much easier to use, and better than google translate. I like this app a lot. Very simple to navigate, and the interface looks great. Props to the developers on the simplicity, appearance, and features. I work around groups of people who speak Spanish, German, Chinese, and English, so I find this beneficial when interacting with them. It builds a bridge over the communication barriers, and allows me to build closer relationships in my travels. It’s a perfect app for everyone!
