Hallow: Prayer and Meditation for PC Description

Hallow offers guided prayer and meditation sessions to help us grow in our faith lives and find peace and stillness in God. Explore contemplative prayer and meditation sessions across: * Christian Meditation: finding peace in silence and imaginative prayer * Examen: reflecting on your day and discovering an awareness of God in the present moment * Lectio Divina: entering into a conversation with God through scripture * Spiritual Writing: journaling with God, listening to Him, and sharing with Him what’s on your mind and heart * Taizé and Chant Meditation: meditative chant and singing with God * Rosary: meditating with Mary through the mysteries of the Rosary Today’s world is stressful, busy, hectic, and full of distractions. Society puts an insane amount of pressure on us and there seems to be a constantly increasing expectation to work harder, study more, respond faster, and perform better. At the same point in time, we’re increasingly searching for meaning, fulfillment, purpose, and growth within our spiritual lives. We believe these two challenges can be addressed with the same solution. Namely, through deepening our relationship with God. By allowing Him into our day-to-day lives and stresses, we let Him share with us His peace, joy and fulfillment. WHAT YOU GET Hallow’s intutitive, convenient and personalized experience begins with a 9-day introduction that guides you step-by-step through three different methods of prayer. After this, it’s up to you to choose from our collection of over 200 sessions across three different sections: Dailies: Daily prayers across methods including Christian Meditation, Lectio Divina, the Rosary, Spiritual Writing, and the Examen. Praylists: Sessions across a variety of prayer methods, all centered on one particular theme e.g., joy, humility, making decisions, calm, letting go. Challenges: Prayers usually focused on re-discovering the beauty within traditional prayers for example: the Our Father, Stations of the Cross, and Advent. In addition to the above sections, Hallow offers a number of features to help users customize their prayer experience: * Journal for users to capture their thoughts after every prayer * Choice between male and female guides * Options for 3 different lengths for every prayer (typically 5, 10, or 15 minutes) * Ability to set prayer reminders * Option to include calming background music in any session * Ability to download sessions for offline listening SUBSCRIPTION PRICING AND TERMS Users can access our Daily prayers (including the rosary) and the 9-day Intro Prayer Challenge for free. I love Hallow. Having an app to guide me through prayer/mindfulness has been such a blessing. When I feel overwhelmed or stressed or at the end of the day Hallow helps me feel peaceful and brings me closer to Our Lord.

  • Didn’t work

After several failed attempts, it ever let me go further than “let us pray”.
  • Lots of buzz but

A few red flags: Red Flag #1: The automatic renewal of a $9 monthly subscription after the free trial is typical, but to make the default box be the yearly charge of $60? They programmed it this way. The default could easily have been the monthly payment. And the lifetime subscription of $200 is pretty funny. Even the best of phone apps have a fairly short shelf life, because the developers move on to new things. You think these guys are gonna be adding new content in 30 years? Lol Red Flag #2: Terms of service are sketch. For instance: “We may use User Material for our internal business purposes, for example, to examine trends or categories or to promote, market or advertise Hallow. You acknowledge that we may indirectly commercially benefit from use of your User Material.” The warning about “free apps” is that you aren’t the customer. Here, even when you’re paying $9 a month, you aren’t the customer! And it’s concerning that the word journal does not appear in the Terms of Service. It must be part of User Material. Be warned. You can have no expectation of privacy for your journal and the developers can profit off it. You’d be better using a separate app, or a paper notebook. And you’ve waived your right to take the developers to trial unless you opt out of arbitration by email within 30 days after setting up your account. Red Flag #3: Many blurbs from notable Catholics, but no one on the staff seems to have a background in theology. Maybe that’s why the material is mostly Catholic-lite, readily available via podcasts or websites. Or at your friendly Newman center. Judge and evaluate this app for yourself, but keep an eye on your subscription and your User Content. And please send an email to support at hallow dot app and say that you want to opt out out of arbitration, because this kind of assholery should be discouraged Believe me, they didn’t put in this clause for our benefit.
  • I need this so much

Hallow is putting quiet, prayerful time with God back in my life. Currently the moments I get to spend alone with God come while caring for my newborn baby. I love praying the Rosary with the guides or reflecting on Scripture and my day. My favorite part is the opportunity to journal after each session. I am not finding many chances to check in with myself throughout the day while adjusting to being a new Dad, so being asked what I am taking away from prayer time with God is truly a gift. I also love the variety in this app that lets me connect with God in whatever way is being offered in the moment. I so so need this app to help me prayer regularly again and can’t recommend it highly enough.
  • Great app!

As a teacher, I often devote my evenings and Sundays to lesson planning in order to stay on top of my work. Mindfulness and Hallow have allowed me to take a pause during my fast-paced days in order to reconnect with myself, God, and the here and now.
  • Beginning prayer life? Desiring to deepen prayer life?

    By Miss CMNN
Hallow is a wonderful starting point for those especially beginning prayer and meditation. At first, mental prayer may be challenging and may even seem daunting... Is there a formal method of praying with Scripture? How do we prepare ourselves for and begin prayer? How do we *truly* pray so that prayer bears fruit in our life? Thankfully, our answers can be found in our rich trove of Catholic prayer tradition. This is where Hallow comes in as a helpful tool by providing us a with a guide and structure in our prayer, and by exposing us to different forms and time-tested means of mental prayer. Or, feeling down and hoping to re-ground ourselves on gratitude and God’s goodness? Needing to make a decision and discern God’s will? Hallow has different prayer session topics/focuses that would suit our daily needs, which is very unique and helpful. It is also educational as you learn about what Christian hope and love are (amongst others) in the process of prayer through the guiding questions. I imagine and definitely foresee my incorporating this app into the formation of my high school youth in sacramental preparation, especially as a reinforcement and as a guide to praying by themselves. I usually do not use guided meditation prayer apps, but they could be refreshing here and there, and they definitely come as great help especially when I’m on-the-go and praying in my car. Overall, I wholeheartedly believe that every serious Christian who wants to deepen their prayer life and do God’s will must practice mental prayer, so thank you, Hallow for introducing us to mental prayer! I am hoping everyone will read further about prayer and these methods—seek Church documents, the writings of our saints, etc. and they will enrich our understanding and thus certainly our prayer life. All praise be to God. (Review updated)
