  • Total waste of $$

I downloaded and even at $5 it’s a waste of money. Played with it for an hour, tried all local charts available and garbage whole thing always defaults to useless world map. This is non intuitive, not useful. Donate $5 to charity instead DO NOT PURCHASE. Fyi. I have owned a marine business for the last ten years. I have delivered vessels from Canada to San Diego. I have been a liveaboard for 18 years. I know boats and the water. This is the worst thing I have ever seen and they want me to spend another $100 to get a half way decent map....NO THANK YOU. CHeck out the competition on the App Store. Garmin and others, just beware I NavX. You’ve been warned.
  • Maps not good

This is not a good app for cruising lakes or rivers. Seems like very old maps, maybe from 25 years ago. Wasted money on this.
  • Down east cruiser

Having used this app from Maine’s midcoast to Eastport I find it accurate and easier to see on my iPad than the presentations on chart plotters costing 30X times more. Plugging in an external battery with a solar panel or running a charging cable out to the nav station allows for extended cruises.

I can not easily add a start point and an end point to chart a path or find out the distance... not useful for plotting a course
  • Doesn’t have Central America

  • Buggy update—BEWARE!

Ordinarily, this is the best marine nav app available (tho I’ve been asking for features in this latest update since the app was first released in the dark ages). Unfortunately, these long-overdue changes killed my ability to see my $90 Navionics charts (for which I was charged full price instead of the usual renewal price—but that’s another story). DO NOT UPDATE UNTIL THEY FIX THIS!

Often more helpful than built in chart plotter
  • WAS the best app. No longer is!

The developers have just about ruined this once fantastic app. Navionics charts for iPads are $50 more than for iPhones! AIS Live is not live unless you have an AIS unit or radio installed on your vessel. Charts have shot up in price. Pop-ups and surveys have added to the misery. At one time I advocated this app to all my navigation students; now I tell them there are better alternatives. What a shame!
  • I really want to use this app but...

I really wanted to use this app on my iPAD 9.7 (latest generation), however I can not get any Navionics/NV/Explorer charts in a short store. This store shows only iNAVX AIS application nothing else. I tried to contact iNAVX (Jim was support person) and he suggested to reload the app from the app and use the latest version 5.5.1 build 1141. I did it and still no navionics charts. So i sent mail to Jim but he disappeared completely. So there is no customer support there. I hope that Jim still alive. NOAA charts working good, but they are not quilted so there is not much use of them, unless it is short one-day sail. Regarding the price of Navionics charts. For some reason INAVX force users to purchase Navionics charts, even user has account with Navionics and already paid for the charts. So iNAVX tries to make some money on a side, however they charge twice as much as navionics. So question is, why I would purchase iNAVX when i can use NAvionics app directly. Besides it perfectly synchronize with chartplotters and can create waypoints and routes. Navionics update their charts constantly, so they always up to date. Regarding “instrument” feature. It is so flimsy, i can not believe. There are many apps which will show ALL N2K and MNEA0183 data in much better format (look on SignalK.org for example) Other features quite much useless as well. Weather - who is using Theyr weather ? Predict Wind become industry standard and now supported by all major MFD players - Navico, Garmin, Raymarine, Furuno. Another great weather app is LuckGrib. Gives everything what NOAA weather chart give plus weather forecast. Anchor? Really are you measuring rode length in miles? Usually it feet, fathoms or meters. I am measuring depth of the water on miles only way off-shore. Also there tons of FREE anchor apps like Anchor (really great app). Regarding quilted charts - users may use NV-USA. They give entire quilted east cost charts for free. Tides - there are millions FREE tides apps as well. AIS for $99? Seriously? Most of the modern VHF radios, MFD,etc support AIS, besides you need to by AIS receiver. anyway. One good thing - this app still works on iPhone, but I would like to see who will seriously navigate 35+ foo boat by using iPhone? So this app was great at the beginning, but as others mentioned become worse and worse with each release. Looks like the development was shifted off-shore and we all know what will happen next. What is really entertaining that development always shows thumb up for good review and ignore negative reviews. With all of these i guess this app will join the list of badly written apps without support. Good-bye iNAVX
