  • Save My Place!

My wife and I have both enjoyed The Week for over 10 years, and I’ve used the iOS app since it was introduced. I just noticed the “Last Read Article” Link in the menu and assume it was added in a recent update. This isn’t the best solution, but at least I could get back to where I left off. That is, IF IT WORKED. It typically takes me to the first page. Fail.
  • App overhaul is hot garbage

Everything about the big update to this app is a step backward in usability. The menus are clunky and take more taps to get to the same place. The last read article function doesn't work properly, since it thinks the last article you read is the front cover after you've opened an issue. I routinely have to sign in and "restore purchases" to access new issues, when I've done nothing on my end to sign out since the last time I opened the app. I can't even find the 10 Things You Need to Know Today section anymore, when it was a simple left swipe away in the last version. I never thought that an update to this app would leave it less usable than the original version, but it certainly did. Please do more user testing the next time you decide to completely redesign this app. It needs a lot of work!
  • App not working

The front cover downloads on my iPad, I only see the headlines for all of the pages. No response from customer support.
  • Family sharing isn’t.

Review update: Down to 2* because no real Family Sharing. Only content my spouse can access is public content. It appears the subscription to the actual issues I purchased via iTunes is considered an in-app purchase and therefore inaccessible w/o purchasing a 2nd subscription? Feel gypped, other news apps allow sharing on family/household members devices.

  • Totally balanced news?

A fellow pilot showed me this app. It’s a wonderful way to download a wide spectrum of news around the world via Readers Digest style and read offline. Get the magazine as well as some content doesn’t go online. Sadly, after a few months I’ve noticed about half of the content doesn’t have the different sides of the story like the other (fair and balanced) half. And that half doesn’t seem credible to me. Too much editorial slant. So I finally cancelled. I wish I could find the perfect, 100%, balanced site. The search continues.
  • Great content but poor app

The content of this magazine is excellent. This recent app update is pretty poor. They seem to have fixed the crashing issue that was pretty chronic in the last version. However this version has introduced several new problems. Content is very slow to load. There are frequent spinning wait cursors throughout the magazine at seemingly random spots. What’s worse, sharing is completely broken. Occasionally the shared link will direct the recipient to the right article but usually the shared link simply points to the app itself which is useless. Additionally, there are places in the magazine (like quotes) that don’t support selecting and copying text. All things considered, I’d rather have bugs and foibles of the prior version. I’m tired of being a beta tester for basic functionality. Update. Many months after I posted this, everyone is reporting the same basic usability problems. I discontinued my digital subscription and went back to print.

  • The Week app is now terrible

Update 9/21/18: App is still bad. Content is good as always but the app is so much worse from before I’m highly considering letting my subscription lapse after 10+ years. Hey “The Week” look at the reviews. That can’t be good for business. Maybe try listening to customers? Sad to see such a great app drop so hard. Hope you guys can get it together. Update: Still terrible. You can no longer share articles. Instead it sends a link that says check out this article from the week but when they click on it it just sends them to the App Store instead of actually showing the article you wanted to share. Bait and switch method, total garbage. Still can’t highlight words to look up within articles. Layout is still bad. Looks like a high school yearbook level of professionalism. Very close to canceling subscription. I’m a long time reader of the Week for over 10 years. Before the latest update the app was perfectly fine. Now it’s worse in almost every way. The layout is terrible, you can’t select words to look up on an iPad, it’s harder to navigate, and they took away cool features like being able to see the pin points on the map where stories originated from. It’s like some marketing dudes at the Week said it’s about time for a complete app overhaul, just because! So they changed it for the sake of change while not improving anything. Please go back to the other format.
