  • Missing content

I paid a subscription, but Salon never accepts my signin, and I can only read the first page of any article. Really annoying.
  • Top notch reporting!

I’ve enjoyed Salon’s coverage for years, and hope to for years to come.
  • Glad to see this app is back.

Access to Andrew O’Hehir alone is worth 5 stars.
  • App needs a visual designer. Bye.

///Update to original review: cancelling my trial subscription. Really—there is enough design info and know-how out there to create a good user experience./// Please get a visual designer to create more readable titles in the app. White text on light photos make for about 50% readability when scrolling through articles. I probably won’t continue with a subscription. Other magazine apps are much easier to scan and read.
  • What happened?

The latest makeover squeezes the list of articles into a small stripe down the center of the screen with about 2/3 of the available “red space” left entirely blank. No subtitle or summary of an article is given until you click on it. Browsing for content does not need to be this hard, guys.
  • Upgraded experience

Streamlined layout; very easy to navigate. I’ll be reading Salon on mobile from now on. Love being able to watch Salon Talks conversations and intriguing documentaries in the app, too.
  • Okay now

Never mind. Just deleted and reloaded the app. Works better now.
  • Top news site

Would be stars but some categories not updating on iPad as they should.
  • So transparently biased

I feel dumb just reading it.

We all know Salon has a heavy ideological slant. And that's ok as long as you realize that. But the last few years it reads more like a blog written by some junior-high Fellow Travelers. It used to be a good source for a certain side. It also offered some great thought and arguments for that side. It's totally in the same class now as folks who post ridiculous things on Facebook that they haven't taken 5 mins to figure out of they're even making a factually correct statement. It seems like Hitchens was the last contributor that was smart enough to express cogent thought. It was like they were waiting for him to die so they could just go off-the-wall insane. It's depressing. What I also did odd is that these authors/contributors get paid for the content try produce. As a former editor and contributor for major news outlets I find it hard to believe that they could simultaneously lower their standards so far, so fast, and retain a majority of their readership. It's baffling in addition to being sad.
