  • Better than preview

UPDATE: Apparently having the same document open in Documents and PDF expert can corrupt it. Had to take a star off for that as my file seems to have been lost forever... Whenever I need to create a table of contents (preview can only handle bookmarks) I have to use this app. So much for Mac being the productivity king... Excellent Apple Pencil support also makes this perfect for note taking, filling out pdf worksheets etc. Drag and drop is bugged I think, when I tap a document to add it to the drag it will open the document instead. I have to tap above the file. This is in the detail/table view, not the grid view. Another minor quibble is that I haven’t found a way to make Open In save files to iCloud by default or move (rather than copy) files between iCloud and local. I would ideally like to switch to having everything in iCloud by default rather than local as it is now. Disclaimer: I did get this app for free during a promotion a couple years back.

First, I am very pleased that PDF Expert reads and annotates all of my files including an 1800-page textbook without crashing on an iPad 5th Gen. An excellent pdf annotating / editing (editing feature provided with an added in-app purchase) tool. Since I use the app to revise study materials, I would be very happy with a few updates: 1) Snip a part of a pdf and paste it on another: I mix and integrate the material to create my review notes. This feature would be very handy. The only way to do it now is take a screen shot, edit, copy it from the photo app, and then paste it. - iAnnotate and Notability has this feature. 2) Customize toolbars: I use different colors of highlighters and frequently switch between them. It would be convenient if I could add multiple highlighters on a tool bar. - iAnnotate has this feature. 3) Show small preview of pages in search so I have an idea of what the pages that contain the searched words look like. As a pdf app, maybe it makes more sense to show texts than page outlines as search results, but it could be useful for users like me. - Notability does this. 4) Copy image from Safari, paste it on PDF Expert: I copy an image by long pressing it, and try to paste it on PDF Expert by long pressing a page. Then the ‘paste’ option sometimes pops up and sometimes doesn’t. When I can’t use the paste option. I have to go back to Safari, save the image, and copy from the photo app. Weird. In Edit mode, I can always paste an image copied from Safari, but I want to add pictures as annotation because I want to be able to move the annotation objects around as a group, especially pictures and their captions.

Beware, contrary to what the description above says the app’s features, such as editing text, are only available if you use the in-app purchase (nearly $10) to buy the feature. I wonder what other features I will need to pay for so the app is fully functional like the Mac OS version I previously purchased. Goodness, just be honest and upfront instead of trying to trick your customers out of their money!
  • Have to purchase twice

I purchased their software in the biggest bundle. Now, to get all the features, I have to spend another $10. What a scam.

That Is why I purchased the software and I’ve spent hours trying to figure out how to run it but it simply will not allow me to fill in a PDF using the software.

I use iPad most of time for reading pleasure related with my job. My reading material is basically scientific paper which is PDF format in general. I do also write my questions and idea on the paper. This app is perfectly good for all my action whatever I want to do, highlight, annotation and etc... Only what I want to have is import function from USB directly. Maybe it is integrated in this version, hitch I do not be able to find. If not, please add this function for convenience. Thank you developer.

Edit and save emails, files , pictures or whatever. I do PA work , damage assessments and this is my all in one go to tool to edit reports, add notes and photos then email them to multiple people all while on the go. This is a 5 star app well worth the money . While there is a learning curve it’s not to complicated for what it can do for you once you take the time to learn it .
