Nasha has been swept away by seasonal bliss. Between sparkling white grounds coated in a fine crystalline dust and twinkling, colorful lights the world seems transformed into some fairytale vistage of beauty. Being a very young Labbit, this is her first Christmas and her first snow. Although Christmas day is still many days away, putting Nasha to bed every night is a burden. She somehow thinks Santa will sneak by her especially early, so she is on her toes...
The bright-eyed amongst you might have spied her perched on my lap in the last post and guessed this was coming--Nasha once again slipped out of the cage and has seen a bit more of the world. The ferry to the island moved a bit slow for the ever impatient Labbit, but the island itself was just her speed.
I went up for another bit of hike on "the mountain" (Mt. Rainier) since my sister has come to visit us here for a little while. We had gloriously perfect weather and the sky was brilliant, so this time around we could see the peak while on our walks. I really enjoy the variety of scenery you can see: meadows filled with wildflowers, canyons, waterfalls, rocky peaks, etc.
I have some pictures to share from my first official day in Athens. We went to an area called Syntagma Square (correct me if I don't spell something correctly!) which has a number of shops and some good places to eat. My first official and completely delicious gyros in Greece was consumed here. I can still feel the party in my mouth...
I should be throwing some last things into my suitcase to prepare for a friend who is driving me to the airport in 20 minutes. Yikes! But like a true addict, I just wanted to throw one post out before I depart. These pictures were taken at the community garden on my campus. Students choose what to plant and then work in it year round. Now our cafeteria actually purchases some of their produce.
Some of my style icons aren't icons for their personal style, but rather costumes and characters they assumed while on screen. A prime example of this is Judy Garland. Honestly, her off-screen persona holds little interest to me, but who is not still captivated by the sparkly, red shoes she wore as Dorothy?
I am usually a very steadfast individual, however I must confess to a fickle heart. My loves and passions (in regards to accessories) are quite frequent and fleeting. In this moment, it is quite easy to name the love of my life: a new pair of black shoes that lace at the ankle to embrace my foot. With a firm grasp clasp me tight and I feel my feet rise off the ground.
I have been borrowing my father's tripod lately. The tripod was bought (along with a 35 mm camera I am also in the habit of using) several years before I was born. It's rather fascinating to use a tool that is older than I am...
I have been in a strange mood for several days. It's a fine mood; I'm all giddy and giggly, but it is quite unusual for me. Getting recognized in a chocolate shop as a frequent visitor, watching your roommates have a battle with Disney songs, and reading entire books in bookstores without buying any might do that to a person...
I'm back to my hair fancies addiction. Winter really offers the oppurtunity to express your whismy on your legs and your head. Layered and unique stockings transform limbs into quirky storybook characters with personalities all their own. While the necessity to stay warm has led to numerous creations for the head; intent upon more than just locking your body heat in.
I safely made it to my parents in Washington State yesterday--the easiest flight day I've ever had. Predictably, I woke up this morning to the sound of rain and big band music (it was quite disorientating).
We've said goodbye to another year and while the current outlook might be dire, one must strive to maintain a sense of wonder and optimism. From past and present, fantastic creations love-staking contrived and photographed offer a brief escape from the real world.
