INSTANT OUTFIT: Doubling-Up

As requested.... "I have to go to my sister's church to see my nephew in a Christmas play this year, but afterwards we're going out to celebrate my sister's birthday. I need an outfit that can be appropriate for church and festive, but not look too stuffy going out. Can you help?"- Alicia, Society Girl

With all the festivities that are planned around this time of year, often you have to double up and go from one thing to the next. You may have a Christmas lunch at work and then a dinner party later in the evening.. what's a girl to do?

I suggest finding a dress or skirt with a great print and some pizzazz that will knock socks off for your dinner party, but to make it a little more "church or office appropriate" - layer the dress with a sweater tunic or dress. Keep your accessories sleek and chic - but interesting.

Either way you will be stunning!

  • I was the girl that went to the birthday party had a blast, ate some cake and then headed out the door with the "goody bag". Remember those? Every girl left with a little bag saying "thank you for showing up to my birthday party! Here's some candy and maybe a few fun girly trinkets". Not even two steps outside the party I would dig into the goody bag.

  • Ahh... the glory days of disco when leopard print was the rage. The print was a daily dose of drama and high society spinning around the dance floor at Studio 54. This season the look is back, but with much more versatility for the uptown or dowtown-kind-of-girl.
  • A peek inside The Vintage Society party for all who weren’t able to attend. The evening was just about perfection - the only glitch being the ridiculous heat wave we were experiencing in Los Angeles. Other than that, it was a blast meeting many Society Girls who came out to celebrate- thanks for joining me!
  • Sometimes girl’s got to put on a pencil skirt and head to the office. There is something about the office that deters most from dressing their best and being their stylish self. The corporate world is filled with black, black and maybe a little white – but I say don’t shy away from your inner Society Girl.
  • Today is the day... today is the day we host my favorite party of the year. It is the ANNUAL HALLOWEEN PARTY. This is the biggest party of the year and people show up looking AMAZING! Now this is no pansy Halloween Party where people are semi-dressed up, this is old school dress-up style, reminiscent of your childhood Halloweens when you would plan your costume all year.
  • It is just wishful thinking, but ever since our "Thanksgiving" with friends I have been hooked on the idea of the holidays and the dream of a white Christmas to come. I am sure for some you out there, you have already experienced the first snow of the year.. something I will probably never experience. Yes I know I can visit snow and pretend to live in a winter wonderland...
  • I know I live in California where it is expected to be warm and sunny 95% of the year, and yes I have to say I love it, but though some may not believe this - we do experience a type of fall and winter weather. It does get cold here, but more like a wonderful-type of cold. A cold that you can wear the fun layers, but not be freezing or need a heavy coat to cover them up.
  • A society girl out there requested that my instant outfit this week be focused on the latest trend - TARTAN - I was more than happy to oblige. These days, tartan is not just for your scottish family reunion, it can be worn just about anytime and anywhere. There are tartan dresses, tartan bags, tartan hats and tartan coats. The list could go on and on - so why not give it a try!
