Longing for Long Hair

My hair already got a new (darker blond) colour last week, but my hairdresser gave me such a good offer on natural hair extensions that I'm actually considering getting them! It isn't an impulse decision, since I've been trying to grow my hair for almost a year now. It used to reach down to my waist (the picture on the left), but then I made the (wrong) decision on "needing a change" and cut it much shorter. It wouldn't be such a tragedy if my hair grew as fast as it used to when I was younger, but for some reason it doesn't. I have started to take some hair vitamins, and they are helping, but the growth still is sooo slow and I'm too impatient. I think there are a lot of other anxious hair growers and for them, and as a note to myself I collected the best tips for faster hair growth.

4 Tips for Longer Hair
  • Eat well
-Eat a lot of vegetables and fruit for vitamins
-Hair and skin benefits from eating healthy fatty acids. Use extra virgin olive oil as a salad dressing and eat fish for omega-3 fatty acids.
-Eggs and fish are a good source of protein and they also contain a lot of biotin. Both are essential to strengthening and growing hair.
-Take a silica dietary supplement. It really helps and is also good for skin and nails
-Some people say that vitamins meant for pregnant women are more efficient (and cheaper than most hair vitamins. I think it has something to do with folic acid that most pregnancy vitamins contain. I have been taking these for a couple of months now, and my hairdresser said my hair was in such good condition it didn't even need any trimming!
  • Get a good quality hairbrush
-Natural bristle brush gives a nice sheen to hair and is much gentler than the plastic bristle ones
  • Only colour your hair professionally!
-You don't want to ruin your hard grown tresses with bad colour! Bad colour=more chemical stress on hair trying to correct it=dry ends=cutting them off=shorter hair!
  • NEVER brush your hair when it's wet
-It will cause breakage

Good luck with hair growing! Or do like me and get some extensions...

Dream hair. Hopefully my hair will be like in the first picture.

  • PS: I'm getting my hair cut tomorrow morning!  Yay!  Guess it's not really so much of a "cut" as a trim since I'm trying to grow my hair out, but I'm getting layers put back in it.  I had a bad experience with layers a few years ago where the stylist kept cutting the top layer shorter and let the longer layers kept getting longer and longer and it just started looking really bizarre!

  • I went to Boots last night and bought two hair clips. Well, I say bought. Thanks to the wonder that is Reward Points I paid for one and got the other with the points I had accumulated on my card. The first clip was just an ordinary tortoiseshell crocodile clip like many I have had before and annoyingly, the one I had most recently has disappeared.

  • One of my many lazy traits is that I don't like plucking my eye brows too much. Many girls I know pluck them into these perfect and narrow arches, and while that looks great on some people, it just looks so superficial on others.

  • Big hair is a term that can refer to hairstyles that emphasize large volume or largely styled hair. Big hair was popular in the late 1970s, as popularized by Dolly Parton and Farrah Fawcett, a development from earlier bouffant styles.

The term is also used in the punk, goth and alternative cultures and is particularly associated with alternative fashion of the 1980s, or inspired by the period.
