
A new study has linked the consumption of diet soda to an increased risk of metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome can lead to heart attack, strokes, or diabetes.
“We found that one or more sodas per day increases your risk of new-onset metabolic syndrome by about 45 per cent, and it did not seem to matter if it was regular or diet,†Dr. Ramachandran Vasan, senior investigator for the Framingham Heart Study, said today from Boston. The study doesn’t seem to prove that an ingredient in diet sodas lead to metabolic syndrome, but rather the actions associated with consuming them, such as eating more sweets.
I cut out soda from my diet a couple of years ago and never really liked the taste of diet soft-drinks. Soda can do a lot of damage to your body, especially if you drink it quite often. I have to say, giving it up was one of the easiest things I’ve done.
