Quick Tips to Get You Exercising After Work

After working 8 or more hours a day, sometimes the last thing you want to do is exercise. You’re mentally burned out, your energy level may be low, all leaving you unmotivated to work out. Here are some quick tips to get you motivated and ready to work out after a long days work:

Take Your Frustrations Out at the Gym
Did you have an especially bad day at work? Use that frustration to your benefit when you work out. Punch the bag a little harder, run a litter faster, or lift a little more weight. Sometimes the best workouts can happen when you are feeling stressed or frustrated. Your mood is more likely to change to a positive one afterwards.

Don’t Stop at Home First
If you belong to a gym, put your gym bag in your car so that you can go straight to the gym after work. Stopping at home first will give you too much temptation not to go. If you workout at home, don’t sit down, don’t read your mail, or check messages. Change into your workout clothes and get to it!

Remind Yourself Why You Need to Exercise
Are you trying to shed some extra pounds? Improve your cardiovascular system or gain strength? Whatever your reason, remember it when you are feeling unmotivated. Carry a motivational photo with you.

Caffeine if You Don’t Mind It
Sometimes you need a little pick-me-up and if you don’t mind drinking caffeine, a cup of coffee 30 minutes or so before you leave work can provide that little boost to get you going for your workout.

Some Good Music
Start listening to your favorite motivational songs on your way to the gym. Nothing gets you pumped up like some good tunes. I keep my iPod loaded with my favorite workout songs. Sometimes it really makes the difference in my workouts.

One motivating factor for myself is that I love to work out now. I look forward to a good run or bike ride. I enjoy challenging myself and I know that every time I exercise, I’m improving my overall well being.  Sometimes it is hard finding the motivation to work out after work.  There are some folks that workout twice a day - before work and after.  It’s all in how bad you want it!
