My apologies for the lack of original or outfit photos this week. I've been feeling under the weather the last couple of days and haven't felt like doing much of anything. And I had no idea what to post about either . . . Being tired all the time didn't leave me much time to think up new things to write about.
But today I got an email from Flavia that came with a dozen photos attached, and not just any photos either . . . Flavia was going through her great-grandmother's things in her house in Romania and happened to come across some magazines from the 1940s. And she was nice enough to scan them in and send me the links.
You can find all of the scans right here. It looks like they were taken from a couple different 1940s magazines, some of them French and some of them German. I love all of the photos, but my favorites are probably from the German magazines, if only because I so rarely see German fashion from the '40s. I love how casual the clothes are in comparison to the French fashions, lots of little cotton day dresses and leather brogues thrown together, lots of '40s teenager looks that remind me of the '40s Seventeen scans from Casey.
These are probably the sort of '40s looks I like best . . . Not the broad-shouldered, tough, utilitarian looks that people usually associate with '40s fashion; these styles are softer and prettier, with skirt lengths that are a bit shorter and colors that are more fun and cheerful. Just what I need to inspire me on an awful old sick day like today.
Thanks, Flavia!
