My Fall Wishlist

From left: Permanent Vacation, A.P.C., and Anthropologie.

You can add me to the list of bloggers who are having trouble lately picking out summer outfits.  Can you believe that I'm already a little bit sick of the '40s sundresses and sandals that I raved about earlier in the year, when summer dressing actually inspired me?  Now all I can think of is what I want to wear this Fall.  And if an outfit on a street style site doesn't include a pair of thick tights or cardigan or jacket I'm sort of bored by it.
All the Fall lookbooks online just make it worse.  A.P.C.'s makes me want to take a trip to Paris, where it just has to be cooler than it is here in Atlanta.  When I went to the mall yesterday my first stop was Anthropologie, where I tried on a bunch of sweaters, and as much as I loved them I just couldn't justify spending a lot of money on something that I won't be able to wear today (or even next month).
But then again I don't think that stocking up early for Fall is a bad idea at all.  To stop myself from going crazy on my shopping trips I'm trying to come up with a list of things I'd like to find this season.  I've already got a couple checked off, and I'm hoping to find most of these pieces at thrift stores so I don't end up spending more than I want to.

1.  A cropped leather jacket.  (This one is Topshop).  I can't tell you how many years I've been searching for one of these in thrift stores, and I'm about to break down and buy one new.  I figure that it would be a good thing to have around to toughen up my fairly sugary wardrobe.  I love the idea of a little black leather jacket with a floral dress.

2.  Simple smock dresses.  This one is A.P.C., and to tell you the truth I just checked this one off by buying an A.P.C. dress that was on super sale.  I'll show you it when it gets cool enough to wear it! (maybe in November)
3.  Oxford heels.  I crossed this one off yesterday too, at the dance club mall of all places.  I almost bought that pair of Jeffrey Campbell oxfords last spring when Urban Outfitters had them discounted, but it was late in the season, and I didn't think I'd wear them again.  But now I think they'd look perfect with the kind of muted, tailored way I'd like to dress this Fall.  Unfortunately I couldn't find the shoes anywhere online--I searched and searched and was planning to buy something else, but then at our local U.O. I stumbled across the very last pair of the shoes I was looking for and bought them, even though they were a size too big.  They really don't feel that much bigger, and when I wear them with thick tights they should work fine.  Plus I think that the salesgirl felt sorry for me for wanting to buy a pair of shoes that had been sitting around for a year, so she gave them to me for only forty dollars.
4.  A trench coat.  I'm going to try to find one at a thrift store, but if I don't I'll just hold out.  This is the kind of classic that I'm bound to find some day.  And it's the sort of thing that I'd much rather have an old version of than a new one.
5.  A satchel bag.  Again, Urban Outfitters, though I'm going to look for a vintage one instead.
6.  Mustard cropped cardigan.  This cardigan is from Topshop and is about the color I'm going for when I knit one myself, whenever I finally finish the grey cable one I've been working on all month.
7.  Plaid shirts!  Yet another Topshop piece, but I'm going to search for a vintage one instead.  Kumar said he wanted to search the thrift stores for plaid shirts and I think it's a wonderful idea.  Only I want to find a fitted one that I can tuck into a pencil skirt and wear with tights.
So there's my Fall wishlist.  It's actually not too different from the one I wrote up this time last year, when I was on the lookout for long cardigans and stacked heel boots.  I found lots of cardigans but never found those elusive boots; the perfect ones just never fit me.  So there's yet another thing to add to the list.
