The one that got away

Sometimes I get asked if I ever miss the dresses and coats and shoes that go in my store. I kind of hate to admit it, but I rarely do--I just don't get that attached to the things unless they're from my own closet. And even when I do have a hard time putting a piece in the store I just rationalize to myself that something just as wonderful will eventually come my way. And maybe then I'll let myself keep it.

I do, however, really regret selling this '70s blue military-style coat way back in January, when my mind was only on the new Spring fashions coming out. Florals kind of clouded my brain back then--this coat was way too tailored and structured to fit into the pretty, girly wardrobe I was trying to build up.

So I sold it, even though I got tempted to pull it out of the store before the auction ended. I'm not sure why I didn't--I think I felt bad about it, though to be honest I've pulled a few things for my own closet since then! There's a floral skirt in there at the moment that I kind of want to steal, but I promise I won't.

If I had found that coat during the Fall I would have kept it for sure. Fall always makes me look for more tailored pieces, nice light coats to give new life to all my summer dresses that I get a little sick of. And at the moment I just happen to be a little obsessed with military and nautical styles--stripes and navy coats with gold trim. Fortunately there are quite a few of these kinds of coats being sold at the moment, though the prices on them are a little high, and I just might stick to the thrift stores. Maybe I'll luck out again!
