Simply Mad for Mad Men

Sex, intrigue, betrayal, competition – what’s not to love about the popular “Mad Men” series on AMC? And then of the course there are the clothes! The absolutely wonderful fashion of the period, portrayed so well by the savvy women of the mythical ad agency.

Thanks to my good friend Joan of Catbooks1940s, I’m officially hooked on the show and thought it would be fun to play “dress up” with the female characters, and this month’s listings at “Metro Retro Vintage”.

  • Like most women in my general demographic, I saw the Sex and the City movie this weekend. Now, I was never a major fan of the show - I liked it well enough, but it wasn't appointment TV for me or anything. I've always thought of it as the television equivalent of junk food: unrealistic, a little fluffy and overprocessed, but sometimes it just hits the spot.

  • Watched the entire series of The Office over the weekend, having not seen it in a while. God that was one of the most brilliant, genius shows. I don't understand anyone that doesn't love it. Not like it, think it ok, but love it.

  • It seems that even the most virtuous of handbag labels can take a stumble and come up with a style worthy of a bonfire. Can-do-no-wrong Chloe is trotting out the Joan bucket bag in an assortment of colors and skins as it's new hot style, but this is no Paddington, or Bay, or even bulky Saskia. I dub it the Joan of Aack! Hobo.

  • Can you hear that? That's the sound of that cosmic force out there that knows when you need to save is also the same time you have an insatiable desire to shop. It's that cosmic force saying, 'na na!' If a cosmic force could rub it's hand together and giggle at you, it would be, right now.

  • From today's NY Times:

"ANYONE who pays attention to fashion may want to know that those in charge of deciding these things have pronounced doom on the dress. They, meaning mainly fashion editors and designers, claim the dress is dead. Kaput. Three years of women in dresses is enough.

  • I actually spotted these at another fashionblog, Fashionosophy, but I like them that much I need to share them with you guys, my readers. I searched them on http://www.net-a-porter.com/ and found them for €273 in sale. Usually they are €390, so 30% discount. Arent they just too beautiful to be true?
