
Have you ever noticed that some people who begin to eat right and exercise tend to transform faster than others who are doing the same thing? There are several factors that may have to do with this:

Genetics
Genetics may not even be an issue for most people since the average person isn’t trying to transform their body the way a bodybuilder does. Bodybuilders are seeking to increase their muscle mass and lower their body fat much more than a person who just wants to be in shape. However, depending on their goals, some people will see results much faster because they have the genes that allow them to gain muscle easily.
Metabolism
Our metabolism slows as we age and if we are not providing enough fuel for our bodies, our metabolism can also slow down as a way to preserve energy. That is why you always hear about the eating 5 - 6 smaller meals per day. This stokes your metabolism and shifts your body away from thinking that it is starving.
Plateaus
You could be experiencing steady progress by losing weight, gaining muscle, and then eventually your progress begins to come to a halt. This is termed as reaching a plateau. Changing up your workouts can usually bust through a plateau. If we don’t change it up by adding intensity or performing different exercises, our bodies get used to the same routines and we no longer make progress. It is good to recognize when you reach a plateau and change it up a bit.
Dedication
Do you stick to your workouts? Are you eating the right foods? The person who appears to be transforming faster than you is probably much more dedicated to meeting their goals. They probably realize all of the above and are disciplined when it comes to nutrition and physical fitness.
Despite all of the above, getting into shape shouldn’t be about speed. For the average person, getting into shape should be a way to make a positive lifestyle change by eating healthier and exercising regularly.
